Travel

For U.S. citizens, a valid U.S. Passport is required for entry into Nicaragua but a visa is not required.

Most foreign travelers arrive at Managua International Airport, which is located approximately 8 miles from the center of Managua. The airport has been recently renovated and is a very modern facility. Managua International also serves as a regional hub for the many national airlines in the Caribbean. For U.S. travelers there are regularly scheduled flights offered by a number of U.S. carriers including American Airlines, Continental, and Delta. For domestic and regional flights, travelers can choose between Copa Airlines, Aerocaribbean and Grupo Taca.

A short walk to the adjacent Domestic Terminal and La Costena Airlines will put you on a 45 minute flight on to Bluefields on Nicaragua's Atlantic coast.

Once in Bluefields, you will travel to Cayo Frenchman on a 28' fiberglass panga (the local boat design of choice), via Bluefields Bay and the Caribbean Sea. The trip is just over 20 miles and takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes, depending on weather conditions. We are exploring the option of a helicopter service (at an additional fee) that would make the trip much shorter and less weather dependent. Further information will be available in the near future.

Below is a map of Nicaragua showing the location of Cayo Frenchman, Bluefields and Managua. For more detail take a virtual trip to Cayo Frenchman in Google Earth.
